Selecting a Location

The location selection process has begun.  So far, an RFI has been sent to the Marriott in San Jose as I believe this is best suited for our needs.  The convention center is just too large for a startup convention and thus too expensive.  Networking capabilities are a necessity.

Speaking of networks, policy is being drafted on network access and usage.  All computers that will be accessing the network at MMOGCon will require MAC address registration.  Bandwidth will be restricted to event participants during scheduled events and abuse of bandwidth will lead to termination of access.  We’re going to have a lot of people playing a lot of games; we need to ensure everyone has enough bandwidth.

MMOGCon is Born!

MMOGCon (pronounced mŏg-kŏn), is a new convention in Silicon Valley, California. It’s a convention for MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) gamers to meet. We’re still planning out the events; sorry to disappoint but we don’t have any more information to give at this time. Tentative dates are set for September 5-7 2009 (US Labor Day Weekend). We hope to have everything planned out by March 2009. A registration system will not be implemented until we have a firm timeline.

In the unlikely event that it cannot work out for this year, MMOGCon will happen in 2010. It’s just a matter of whether or not that will be the 2nd or 1st annual MMOGCon.

MMOGCon is organized and produced by MyMMOGames - Multiplayer Gaming and Media Community. Discussion on the direction of MMOGCon can be found at the MMOG Forums.
